Racing: Newmill will bid to repeat his heroics of 2006 when he lines up in the Kerrygold Champion Chase at Punchestown tomorrow.

John Joseph Murphy's charge triumphed by 15 lengths in the Grade One contest last year after landing the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival the time before.

Newmill was only fourth at Prestbury Park this time around but Murphy is confident his stable star can bounce back under ideal conditions.

"It all looks good now and it's the first time everything will be perfect for him so I'm really looking forward to it," he said. "I'm not 100 per cent sure who will be riding him yet as Andrew McNamara is injured and may not be riding so it might be Robert Power.

"His entry in the (ACCBank) Champion Hurdle (on Friday) is just precautionary in case anything went wrong tomorrow."

Murphy feels Newmill was far from disgraced behind Voy Por Ustedes at Cheltenham but hopes he jumps better tomorrow.

"I was reasonably happy but I think the run of the race didn't really suit as he was taken on early which probably distorted his concentration," he continued. "I think he ran very well but at that level you can't get away with making mistakes and he made some of those."

Eamonn Sheehy saddles Justified in the two-mile feature and the trainer is hoping his charge can return to the form that saw him go close in Grade One company at the meeting last year.

The eight-year-old was running a big race in the Queen Mother Champion Chase last month until blundering away his chance and has continued to please since.

"He's come out of Cheltenham pretty well and he was running a big race there until making a mistake at the ditch," Sheehy said. "The rain is starting to come over here so the ground should be plenty safe enough. He's won on all sorts of ground so as long as it was safe, we would be happy enough.

"He ran a big race here last year and it's a track he always seems to run really well at so we're hopeful of a big run from him tomorrow."
