MOSTAR - Fear gripped minority Muslims in Croat-dominated west Mostar yesterday after Croats opened fire on Muslim pilgrims trying to visit a cemetery.
NATO-led peace-keeping troops and western envoys struggled to defuse tensions in the divided Bosnian city a day after Croats shot and stabbed Muslims who had sought to mourn loved ones in Liska cemetery in the Croat-held western quarter.
As international police monitors investigated the violence in which one Muslim was killed and at least 20 wounded, UN human rights workers reported an upsurge in expulsions and intimidation of Muslims remaining in west Mostar.
