Delhi - A six-member Muslim suicide squad was shot dead by Indian police yesterday while storming the heavily fortified Srinagar airport in the northern Kashmir state, Rahul Bedi reports.
Officials said three Central reserve police officers nel and two civilians, including a 16-year-old girl, who were injured in the hour-long shoot-out, died later in hospital.
The Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (Army of the Pure) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had dispatched the suicide squad to breach the airport's security.
