WASHINGTON – Muslim Americans have felt a surge in their sense of well-being, with the percentage of Muslims saying they were “thriving” in the United States up 19 per cent since 2008, according to a poll released yesterday.

A Gallup study found 60 per cent of Muslim Americans surveyed reported they were thriving, slightly higher than for Americans of any other religion except for Jews.

Pollsters noted the rapid surge in positive sentiment, with the 19-point increase since 2008 double that of any other major faith group. The report said the approval rating for US president Barack Obama among Muslim Americans was 80 per cent, and that 46 per cent of Muslim Americans identified as Democrats, compared to only 9 per cent who identified as Republicans. – (Reuters)
