London - A British naval officer nicknamed "Commander Underpants" for his habit of wearing novelty underwear was stripped of his seniority yesterday after he was convicted of holding a sexually explicit conversation with a female junior officer.

Lieut-Cmdr David Bellingham (31), was convicted by a court martial of one of eight disciplinary charges arising from alleged misconduct with four women serving with him aboard the warship HMS Coventry, now stationed off Iraq. He was fined £2,000 pounds and severely reprimanded for his behaviour with Ms Claire Alcock (22) on the warship's communications system during an anti-submarine exercise.
