Two Northern Ireland men have been shortlisted in the nominations for the Golden Globe awards, which have been announced in Los Angeles.
Liam Neeson from Ballymena, Co Antrim, has been as nominated as best actor (drama) for his portrayal of the pioneering US sexologist Alfred Kinsey, in Bill Condon's film Kinsey.
Neeson was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 1994 for his performance in Schindler's List and he received another Golden Globe nomination three years later for Michael Collins.
Hotel Rwanda, the new film from Belfast writer-director Terry George, received three Golden Globes nominations yesterday - best film (drama), best actor (drama) to Don Cheadle and best original film song to Wyclef Jean for Million Voices. George was nominated for an Oscar in 1994 for his collaboration with Jim Sheridan on the screenplay for In the Name of the Father.
In the category of best film (drama), Hotel Rwanda is shortlisted along with Kinsey, The Aviator, Million Dollar Baby, Finding Neverland and Closer.
Also nominated in the best actor (drama) category are Johnny Depp (Finding Neverland), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator) and Javier Bardem (The Sea Inside). The nominees for best actress (drama) are Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake), Nicole Kidman (Birth), Scarlett Johansson (A Love Song for Bobby Long), Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) and Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Vol 2).
Jamie Foxx received three nominations for different roles, as best actor (comedy or musical) for Ray; as best supporting actor for Collateral and best actor in a TV mini-series or TV movie for Redemption. Clint Eastwood also received three nominations, as producer, director and composer of Million Dollar Baby.
Awarded annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes will be presented on January 16th.
