Nestlé is still interested Hershey despite a newspaper article suggesting the world's largest food firm was no longer eyeing the famed maker of Hershey's Kisses.

"Suddenly the market leader in a given country - and incidentally in the largest confectionery market in the world - is being talked about as potentially for sale, how could we not take an interest? It makes perfect sense," Nestlé spokesman Mr Francois Perroud said this morning.

However, Perroud refused to confirm or deny the firm was bidding for Hershey. He also had no comment on speculation Nestle is interested in Pfizer unit Adams but stressed chewing gum, which is major part of the unit, was not of strategic interest for Nestlé.

Nestlé's goal is to be a number one or strong number two in a market, but it is a weak number three in the US chocolate market.
