Paris - A French motorist has claimed that his reckless driving may have contributed to the Paris car crash which killed Princess Diana. Mr Francois Levistre (54), a former marine, told researchers working on a book about the crash, that his speeding through the underpass in a grey Ford Ka may have caused the driver, Henri Paul, to lose control of the Mercedes carrying the princess.

Mr Levistre, who participated in the recent widely-derided Carlton documentary investigating conspiracy theories surrounding the crash, claims that he sped into the underpass ahead of the Mercedes and the white Fiat Uno believed also to have been involved. His wife's account claims he overtook the other cars in the tunnel, forcing the driver of the Fiat to swerve and make contact with the Mercedes.
