New Dean of Armagh installed

The Ven Patrick Rooke has been installed as Dean of Armagh at a ceremony in the Church of Ireland cathedral in the city.

The Church of Ireland primate, Dr Robin Eames, presided at the ceremony and the address was delivered by the Rt Rev Alan Harper, Bishop of Connor.

Archdeacon Rooke was ordained in 1978. He served as curate in the parish of Mossley in Belfast and then in Ballywillan parish, Portrush, Co Derry.

In 1983 he became rector of Craigs, Dunaghy and Killagan and in 1985 was appointed rural dean of Ballymena, Co Antrim.

In 1988 he became rector of Ballymore parish, Tandragee, Co Armagh, and from 1992 was appointed assistant provincial and diocesan registrar.

In 1993 he was appointed honorary vicar choral of St Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, returning to Connor diocese as rector of Agherton in 1994.

He is married to Alison and they have three children.
