RTE has appointed a new commissioning editor for television drama.

RTE has appointed a new commissioning editor for television drama.

Ms Mary Callery will be the first such editor with responsibility for both in-house drama and that commissioned through the station's independent productions unit.

Ms Callery, who joined RTE in 1984, has experience of current affairs, youth and drama production and was involved in the development of the soap opera Fair City and TG4's Ros na Run. She has also commissioned independent feature films and drama productions such as I Went Down, Sweety Barrett and Relative Strangers.

Since January 1999 she has been development manager of the Irish Film Board.
