Racing:Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Newmill has a couple of minor war wounds but is generally unscathed after falling at Punchestown on Sunday.

John Murphy's gelding was having his first run over fences this season in the Byrne Group plc Tied Cottage Chase and was still very much in contention before departing four from home in a race won by Nickname.

"He's had two stitches over his eye, but he seems fine," said Murphy.

"He has eaten up and also been for a walk out in the paddock.

"Apparently it was quite a nasty fall, but he just got it wrong and Andrew (McNamara) said he hit it quite hard and got a kick from another horse that gave him the cuts.

"It was very foggy so we couldn't see much. We were worried for a while, but thankfully there will be another day."

When that day will be remains to be seen as the Cork-based Murphy campaigned the nine-year-old cautiously over hurdles and fences in the last couple of seasons.

However, the most likely outcome is Newmill will go straight back to the Festival for a repeat challenge in the Seasons Holidays-sponsored two-mile championship — for which he is the general 4-1 second favourite.

"I'd say he will probably go straight for Cheltenham, but we'll just see how he is this week," added Murphy.
