London - Motorists in the British capital face fines of up to £2,500 sterling if caught flicking cigarette butts out of their car windows under new anti-litter measures launched yesterday.

The "No Butts About It" campaign follows an environmental study which found the biggest single cause of litter in the city centre was £5.7 million worth of cigarette butts, packets and spent matches left behind by smokers, the Evening Standard reported.

The two-month experiment by Westminster council urges motorists as well as pedestrians to clean up their act. - (AFP)
