London - The British government said yesterday there was no evidence of BSE in sheep and denied it had tried to cover up a botched study during which cow brains were mistaken for those of sheep.

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary, Ms Margaret Beckett, revealed last week that samples thought to be taken from sheep for a study looking for evidence of mad cow disease in the national flock were in fact material taken from cows.
