No significant disruption on transatlantic flights from Ireland is expected today, but passengers should confirm this with the airport before flying, operators have said.

People flying from this State to the US yesterday afternoon did not experience heavy disruption, after the crash of the American Airlines flight. A spokesman for Aer Lingus said the company does not anticipate any delays in today's schedule. All three New York-area airports - Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark - closed after the crash, but later reopened.

Aer Lingus had two flights to New York yesterday. The first left for Kennedy airport and was en route when the crash occurred, but landed slightly behind schedule early yesterday evening.

The second flight was due to leave Shannon for Kennedy airport at 3.00 p.m, but was delayed for 85 minutes after the crash. At Shannon, three US bound flights were delayed.
