People living in the North spend more on partying than those living anywhere else in the United Kingdom, a survey has claimed.

A report into who parties and how, proved that while happy to throw a good party on a lemonade budget, Northern Ireland tops the league of the big spenders.

People splash out an average £445 (€572) per person a year attending parties - leaving the rest of the UK trailing in their wake with a spend of nearly £100.

Guests attending hen, stag, engagement and anniversary parties each spend more than £100 per party — and almost £200 for weddings.

“Despite the current financial climate, Northern Ireland’s desire to party continues unabated,” said Clodagh Ward, consumer development director at Yell.com for whom the study was conducted.

The survey was carried out for Yell.com by trends forecaster Future Foundation in August and based on a sample size of 200 online respondents.
