Restrictions controlling the most dangerous criminals are to be introduced, the Northern Ireland Office said today.

Restrictions controlling the most dangerous criminals are to be introduced, the Northern Ireland Office said today.

Violent Offender Orders (VOO) will impose conditions to protect the public and could be maintained for an unlimited period, with breaches punishable by up to five years in prison, the government said.

They will be included in legislation scheduled for the next parliamentary session.

Sexual offences rules in Northern Ireland have also been revamped and tougher penalties introduced.
