Athletics: Derval O'Rourke reached the 100m hurdle semi-finals in Daegu when finishing second in her heat at the World Track and Field Championships this morning.

The Cork woman was 19th fastest overall in a time of 13.07sec, with favourite Sally Pearson of Australia setting the pace of 12.53 in the same heat.

The semi-finals are scheduled to take place from 11.15am tomorrow morning.

Paul Hession, however, missed out on a 200m semi-final spot when finishing fourth in is heat. A mere third of a second separated him from a place in the semis as he posted a time of 21.02sec.

The women's 4x400m team of Marian Heffernan, Joanne Cuddihy, Claire Bergin and Michelle Carey ran a new Irish record of 3:27.48 but their 12th place finish was not god enough to reach the final.

However, it will go some way to helping them achieve Olympic standard, or top 16 in the world.
