The Minister for Public Enterprise Ms O'Rourke unveils the first Luas tram.

Ms O’Rourke was in London at the UIPT Transport Exhibition where the first of the 40 trams on order was on display.

The Luas system is scheduled for completion in 2003 and the Minister said today that the project is on target. One of the first lines to be completed will be the Sandyford to city centre route and trials are due to begin late next year.

The new Citadis tram is 30 metres long and can carry up to 235 passengers.
