Sonia O'Sullivan is confident she can smash the Irish 10-mile road-race record at the BUPA Great South Run in Portsmouth on Sunday.

Providing the weather on the English south coast remains decent, O'Sullivan sees no reason why she should not better the time of 54 minutes 14 seconds run by Regina Joyce in California in August 1984.

The 32-year-old from Cobh has a personal best of 55mins 37secs last June.

"It was a very hilly course and really, I wasn't going flat out," said O'Sullivan. "I know I can run a lot faster."
