Dublin Chamber of Commerce has offered to fund the crime council planned by the Department of Justice. The proposed council, where communities, State agencies and businesses will develop anti-crime policies, was central to the Department's discussion paper, Tackling Crime, published this week.
The chamber believes running the council will cost £300,000 a year and has offered half that sum annually. "Business is ready to play its role in tackling the problems facing the criminal justice system," said the chamber's chief executive, Mr Noel Carroll.
