Sinn Féin president, Mr Gerry Adams has called for opposition parties in the 29th Dáil to co-operate in facing down Government policies which will, he said, widen the gap between rich and poor.
Mr Adams said he next government could begin privatisating aspects of the health service and other public services.
He said in a statement Sinn Féin had campaigned on issues similar to other parties who will be in opposition and they should work together to pursue the common part of their agendas.
"If progress is to be made, those of us who share this vision have to learn to coalesce, to map out broad programmes of work and to provide principled opposition," the Sinn Féin president said.
He also claimed the General Election result could herald the beginning of a new era in Irish politics.
"We could be seeing the beginning of a re-alignment or at least a redefining of Irish politics. So the big question is not just who will form the government. It is also who will form the opposition to that government and what will be the basis of that opposition".
Mr Adams was speaking ahead of the Sinn Féin parliamentary party meeting tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Greens’ new parliamentary party will also meet tomorrow.
