Over 80 per cent of all flood deaths occur in vehicles and most happen when drivers make a single fatal mistake trying to navigate through flood waters according to a new website.
The website, www.flooding.ie, was launched today by the Minsiter for State at the Department of Finance, Tom Parlon and is part of the National Flooding Awareness Campaign.
The site warns that changes in rainfall patterns and rises in sea levels resulting from climate change may make flooding incidents more frequent and severe in the future.
The main aim of the site it to highlight the dangers of flooding and to mitigate future flood risks and impact.
It also provides contact details and links to different organisations who can help in the event of a flood.
