Michael Owen is out of Liverpool's UEFA Cup tie away to Steaua Bucharest on Thursday with further problems from his ankle injury.
The England striker was left behind today when Liverpool flew to Romania, with boss Gerard Houllier hoping a week of treatment will ensure Owen is fit to face Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
Owen has been struggling with injuries since damaging a shin last month against Arsenal - an injury which cost him his place in England's Euro' 2004 qualifier in Turkey.
He then missed two Liverpool games but returned to score against Leeds on October 25th. But he managed only an hour of that victory before being taken off by Houllier.
He acquired a different ankle injury that day and missed the Carling Cup win at Blackburn, before playing another hour in Sunday's victory at Fulham.
Houllier said: "This is a different injury to the one he had against Arsenal. If he stays behind for treatment he should be okay for the United match."
