The owner of a west Belfast xi company is recovering in hospital after being shot and wounded in an apparent robbery attempt on Tuesday night. Mr Eugene O'Neill, a father of five in his late 30s, was hit in the left leg by a shotgun blast. His condition is not serious.
A masked and armed man forced his way into the house on the Groganstown Road, near Lisburn, Co Antrim. He was then joined by several masked men. They tried to force Mr O'Neill to put on handcuffs and shot him when he refused. The raiders eventually fled without any cash.
