The leader of the Democrat Unionist Party, Mr Ian Paisley said a "golden opportunity" had been made available to realise a stable and entirely peaceful future.

"We have never been closer to solving the problems that have plagued us for decades," he said.

"The decommissioning of IRA weapons and dismantling of the structures of terrorism is the ultimate outcome of the discussions."

However, Mr Paisley said he wanted to see the proof before he would believe it had happened. 
"The Prime Minister tells us he believes we shall see very shortly this begin to happen.
"I'm too long in the tooth and I'm too old to be bluffed. We are not going to be bluffed.

"We say we will believe it when we see it," the 78-year-old leader said.

He said many unionist parties had left previous talks processes admitting they were poorer than when they entered them, but this was not the case today.

He said the DUP had worked on the four issues identified at Lancaster House in June.
