A bomb exploded in a cinema in the Pakistani port city of Karachi today, the eve of municipal elections, killing two people and injuring 14, state television reported.
Police earlier said one person was killed and at least six other people injured by the bomb that went off during an evening film show in Karachi's main Saddar commercial area.
But the state-run Pakistan Television later said two people were killed and 14 injured, six of them seriously.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility or information about who set off the bomb.
Tomorrow’s voting in Karachi and 25 other districts in the country's four provinces is the fourth phase of local government elections organized by the military government to implement what it calls its devolution of power plan.
The strong Karachi-based Muttahida Qaumi Movement has asked its followers not to vote in the elections, which political parties are barred from contesting.
The government has deployed thousands of army and paramilitary troops in Karachi to maintain peace in Pakistan's volatile commercial capital.
