The Irish Medicines Board is advising parents and family doctors against using two particular single-component measles, mumps and rubella vaccines which are now available in the Republic.

The board said it had concerns about the safety, quality and efficacy of the vaccines which are manufactured in the Czech Republic. "Specifically, the IMB has concerns in relation to the manufacture, testing and storage of the single component vaccines," a spokeswoman said.

The vaccines include Pavivac and Movivac, both of which are unlicensed in the Republic.

Some parents have sought single-component vaccines for their children since a study claimed a link between the triple-component vaccine and the onset of autism. However, most researchers claim the triple vaccine is safe.
