Dublin Corporation and gardai in the city are to put together an initiative to make public parks safe and free from vandalism. Its main aim will be to update the current bye laws governing public parks in Dublin, which were last substantially changed in the 1960s.

At a meeting between Dublin city councillors and the assistant Garda Commissioner, Mr Tom King, it was agreed that officials from the Corporation and the Garda would prepare a consultative document on ways to improve safety in parks. Mr King expressed worries about the level of drug abuse and teenage drinking
