In a triumph for transatlantic diplomacy, star CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour (40) married US State Department spokesman James Rubin (38) at the weekend. Her regular beat is the world's war zones; his is the corridors of power at Washington, so they avoided both for a wedding in the small town of Bracciano, outside Rome. Rubin, a long-time aide to US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and Amanpour, British of Iranian origin and based in London, met last year on a trip by Albright to Bosnia.
Princes William (16) and Harry (13) were at the centre of a safety row at the weekend after Harry was photographed abseiling down a 160-feet dam wall in the Black Mountains of Gwent, Wales without protective helmet, boots or safety line. The News of the World published front-page pictures of the prince abseiling with only a single rope attached to him, as his brother looked on. A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: "We will be talking to a safety expert to find out if what was done was actually not safe and how things should be properly done in the future."
A caddy filed suit for $155 million (about £107 million) against Hollywood actor Michael Douglas for slamming a golf ball into his testicles and uttering a racial epithet, a court official said at the weekend. According to the suit filed by James Parker, Douglas gave him $60 as a "possible payoff" for the alleged incident. Parker said Douglas told him: "I can't believe I hit this nigger in the balls." Alan Burry, the actor's press secretary, said someone else committed the act last October and Douglas came to the caddie's rescue.
Danish mother Anne Marie Lindballen, has given birth to a baby girl weighing more than 14 pounds, Danish regional television reported. The woman beat the national record she held for the heaviest birth. The new baby was three ounces heavier than her brother born two years ago.
