THE dancer, choreographer and ballet master Nicholas Beriozoff, whose pupils included Nureyev, Baryshnikov, Franklin, Alicia Markova and his own daughter Svetlana Beriosova, has died in Zurich. He was aged 89.

He was best known for his work at the Stuttgart (1957-1960) and Zurich (1964-1971) companies. He and his second wife Doris Catana founded the Zurich Opera Ballet School where he was still teaching a few weeks before his death.
