Sweden’s Carl Pettersson squandered a six shot overnight advantage when play resumed in the delayed Portuguese Open and now shares the lead at Vale do Lobo on two-under par.

High winds have caused havoc with the playing schedule all week necessitating many second rounds to be completed this morning. When it did Pettersson found himself in free-fall and despite recording five birdies, the Swede also had two double bogeys and five more bogeys in his 76.

The 24-year-old was joined by England’s David Gilford after the former Ryder Cup player completed a level par round.

Spain’s Miguel Angel Martin (70) and England’s Greg Owen (71) were spared the logistical complications as they managed to finish their rounds yesterday. The pair find themselves a shot behind on one-under alongside Sweden’s Henrik Nystrom (71) who finished his round today.

The cut soared to nine-over, but at that, it still left Des Smyth as the only qualifier from the Irish contingent. The 49-year-old finished on five-over after completing his 74 yesterday.

David Higgins was five shots further back on 10-over after a 79 and Philip Walton had a disastrous 83 to finish on 14-over.
