Arsenal's Robert Pires has had a knee operation in a Marseille hospital and will not be able to play again for several months.
The French midfielder, who tore his right knee ligaments in an FA Cup game against Newcastle last month, will stay in hospital for a couple of days before starting his rehabilitation.
"The length of the rehabilitation period is not yet known but should last a few months," a hospital spokesman said today.
