A US navy plane damaged in an alleged attack by an anti-war activist armed with an axe at Shannon last January did not resume service until May, Ennis Circuit Court heard today.
Ms Mary Kelly, aged 50, denied charges of criminal damage to the plane and of trespassing at Shannon Airport.
The plane's captain, Comm William John Schneider said that as a result of the attack on the 29th of January, the plane was not fit for flying till early May.
He told the court that he found a number of gashes on the skin of the plane, while the nose and fusileage also sustained damage during the alleged attack.
Comm Schneider said the plane was carrying logistic equipment, including spare parts and tyres for the plane, but, no armaments.
There are also five other people who are facing a charge of criminal damage on the same plane five days after Ms Kelly's alleged attack on the 29th of January last.
The case continues tomorrow.
