Police in Northern Ireland have accused the Provisional IRA of shooting a bus driver behind the wheel of his vehicle in Derry at the weekend.

Danny McBrearty was shot in both legs after his bus was stopped in the Creggan area of the city on Sunday night.

Assistant Chief Constable Sam Kincaid said today an initial investigation had shown that the Provisional IRA "were responsible for the shooting of Mr McBrearty".

"We are extremely grateful for the assistance the public have given to date and appeal for anyone who witnessed the attack to contact CID in Strand Road," he added.
