Police on both sides of the Border are today continuing their hunt for a three-man gang which went on a day-long crime spree on Thursday during which the men hijacked seven vehicles, crashing three of them.

One female driver was assaulted by the men as her car was being hijacked, while another 81-year-old woman was badly injured by the gang. An elderly male driver also had a noose put around his neck.

A Garda helicopter joined the search for the gang along the Border throughout Thursday.

Gardaí said today forensic examination is to be carried out on a suspect vehicle that was  recovered in Rathfarnham, south Dublin yesterday afternoon.

A Garda spokesman said a full technical examination of the vehicle must be completed before it could be linked to the attacks.
