A convicted murderer on the run in Northern Ireland was recaptured today.

A convicted murderer on the run in Northern Ireland was recaptured today.

Jeff Wilson (38) was detained by police in his home town of Larne, Co Antrim, where he disappeared less than 24 hours ago.

Wilson escaped from two prison warders and his probation officer after being allowed out on six hours' compassionate leave to visit his elderly father and his mother's grave.

Wilson was serving a life sentence at Maghaberry Prison, near Lisburn, Co Antrim, for murdering Brendan Kevin Kelly in Brighton in 1987.

Police said today that Wilson was detained by police as he walked along the A8 road near a housing estate in Larne.
