SrinagaR - Two policeman were killed and six wounded yesterday when separatist guerrillas stormed Kashmir's main police control centre in Srinagar, officials said. A spokesman of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group said a four-member suicide squad from the organisation had stormed the control centre.
Fedayeen, or suicide squads of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, have launched a series of attacks on Indian security forces since 1999.
In a further attack, militants fired two rifle grenades at a police station 2 km away from the main police control centre while the gun battle at the centre continued. Two policemen were injured in that attack, police said.
Police said 12 other people, including nine militants, a policeman and two civilians had been killed in other violence in the state since Thursday night.
