All areas vote Yes to same-sex marriage in southeast

Convincing Yes votes recorded in Wexford, Waterford, Wicklow, Carlow-Kilkenny

Wexford has given a convincing Yes vote in the Same-sex Marriage Referendum.

In total, 40,692 people voted Yes, and 23,298 voted No, a margin of 63.59 per cent to 36.41 per cent.

The turnout was 57.832 per cent, with 63,990 valid votes cast.

The electorate in the constituency is 111,474, and 460 spoiled votes were cast.

Waterford had declared first in the southeast region.

In Carlow-Kilkenny, 38,166 Yes votes were cast and 29,697 No votes, giving a margin of 56.24 per cent to the Yes side and 43.76 per cent to the No side.

Here the turnout was 65.43 per cent, with 67,863 valid votes cast.

The referendum has been carried resoundingly in Waterford, with 28,313 Yes votes (60.3 per cent) and 18,620 No votes (39.7 per cent) to make a total of 46,933 valid votes cast.

The total poll including spoiled votes is 47,297, out of an electorate of 79,669, giving a turnout of 59.37 per cent.

In Wicklow, the referendum was also carried convincingly, with 68.37 per cent in favour and 31.63 per cent against.

A total of 44,059 people voted Yes, and 20,384 against, for a total of 64,443 valid votes cast.

The turnout was 68.77 per cent, of an electorate of 94,275.
