Lisbon - Portugal's two right-leaning parties, the Social Democrats and the Popular Party, won a majority in yesterday's parliamentary election, according to official results.
The interior ministry said with only two districts left to count, the centre-right PSD had captured 40.12 per cent of the vote for 102 seats while the right-wing Popular Party had 8.75 per cent for 14 seats in the 230-seat parliament.
The ruling Socialists had won 37.85 per cent of the vote for 95 seats, the Unified Democratic Coalition, grouping the Communists and Greens, had 6.97 per cent of the vote for 12 seats while the far-left Left Block had 2.75 per cent for three seats.
