US Secretary of State Mr Colin Powell and Palestinian President Mr Yasser Arafat are trying to meet during Mr Powell's trip to Africa and Europe later this month, a US official has said.
"They're looking at possibilities and schedules. There's no date or place at this point. It's a question of whether one could do it or not," said the official, who asked not to be named.
Mr Powell leaves for Mali on May 22nd and will end his tour in Hungary on May 29th.
A Palestinian official said a meeting was being prepared in Paris next Wednesday but the US official said he was unsure that would work for Mr Powell.
