Dublin Corporation is mystified after a "priceless" section of the Liffey Wall was stolen last night.

The 24 square metres of granite was taken from a construction site on Victoria Quay near James's Gate. The wall was under reconstruction after a car demolished a 10 metre section of it two weeks ago.
The thieves broke open a barrier and took the stone - probably using a large truck in an operation that would have taken up to half an hour. Curved capping stones were not taken, because it is believed they were too heavy for the thieves.
"It is inconceivable that anybody would have so little regard for the heritage of the city", Dublin Corporation's Deputy City Engineer Mr Tim Brick told ireland.com.
"I don't know what they want if for or what they would do with it. It is very annoying".
The Liffey wall ranges in age from 150 to 200 years old. Mr Brick described the stolen granite as "priceless" and difficult to replace or replicate.
Mr Brick added that fortunately a section of wall at Blackhall Place - where a bridge is being built - will help to replace the lost stone.
The Gardaí has asked members of the public who witnessed the theft last night or have any information about the incident to contact them at Kevin Street.
