In Ireland "having a good time" is a metaphor for getting wrecked on alcohol and drugs, according to Father Silvester O'Flynn.

The Donegal-based priest was speaking at the annual nine-day novena at Knock Shrine in Co Mayo yesterday where thousands of people attended Mass in the Basilica. "While our material standards have risen beyond all expectation over the past 20 years, we need to look more closely at the inner quality of life. Having pampered the body, have we lost touch with our souls?" he asked.
