One of two prisoners who escaped from outside Limerick prison last Thursday was recaptured in Dublin. He was re-arrested by gardaí at Ronanstown in west Dublin on Monday night and was brought back to Limerick prison. The search is continuing for a second man.
Peter Creighton (22), from Moorefield Lawns, Clondalkin, Dublin, had escaped along with Francis Gavagin (29), with an address at Howardstown, Bruree, Co Limerick, but originally from Clondalkin. They were being returned to prison after they were further remanded in custody at Limerick District Court on bank robbery charges to February 28th when they escaped from a Garda van which had stopped outside the prison on Mulgrave Street. They hijacked a van and forced the driver to take them to the Dublin road, where they stole a car and made their escape.
A third man in the van at the time was also in court on the same charges. Robert Ryle (21), Blackditch Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin, did not escape.
They were charged with stealing €14,000 (£11,025) from the Bank of Ireland at Dooradoyle, Limerick, on November 29th, and from the Bank of Ireland in Charleville, Co Cork, on November 20th.
