Retailer Marks & Spencer, which has a number of Irish branches, has recalled two houmous products contaminated with the potentially fatal salmonella bug.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said the two products were being recalled due to a risk to consumer health.
They are: Piquillo Pepper Topped Houmous (product code 0506809) with a display-until date of February 14 th2007 and a use-by date of February 15 th2007 and Reduced Fat Houmous 3 X 60g (product code 0516891) with the same dates on the packaging.
FSAI deputy chief executive Alan Reilly said consumers should not consume the affected product.
"These products are ready-to-eat, so the risk posed is that the Salmonella would not be destroyed before consumption.
"Any consumer who has a tub of the affected product is advised to dispose of it or return it to the store where it was purchased.
"Consumers who may have already consumed these products and are feeling unwell, should seek medical advice."
Affected batches have been withdrawn from sale by Marks & Spencer and no other product is affected, the FSAI said.
