CONCERT PROMOTER and hotel owner John Reynolds was yesterday convicted of serving alcohol without the proper licence.
The conviction related to his luxury boutique hotel at Bellinter House south of Navan, Co Meath.
Navan District Court heard yesterday from a senior Revenue official that on September 11th, 2009, he went to the hotel and ordered a half glass of whiskey.
After being served, he spoke to the barman and then on October 14th he interviewed John Reynolds and he accepted he did not have a licence on that date.
Summonses for selling the alcohol without the appropriate licence were issued both against Bellinter House Ltd and against John Reynolds trading as Bellinter House. State solicitor for Meath, William O’Reilly told Judge John Lindsay that if a conviction was obtained against Mr Reynolds the matter against the company could be struck out.
The judge convicted Mr Reynolds of selling intoxicating liquor by retail at Bellinter House without taking out the proper licence as required by the Finance Act. He then struck out proceedings against the company. The court heard Mr Reynolds, whose address was given as Bellinter House, has no previous convictions and he was fined €700 for this offence. He was not in court.
