Five Amnesty International activists were arrested in Moscow for handing out leaflets to the audience before a U2 concert.
They were handing out leaflets and urging concert-goers to sign petitions pressing Russian authorities to bring the murderers of journalist Anna Politkovskaya and rights activist Natalya Estemirova to justice.
The activists were detained because they did not have the necessary authorisation, a police spokeswoman said. They were released after a few hours.
The head of Amnesty’s Moscow office, Sergei Nikitin, said U2’s management had assured them before yesterday’s show that all the necessary permits were in place.
