About 30 people protesting against fuel price rises in Burma marched in the provincial town of Bago today, witnesses said.

There had been no arrests, although gangs of men from the junta's feared Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA), which has been used to quash similar protests in Rangoon, were following the march, witnesses said.

Security police and the USDA followed the protest on motorcycles, taking pictures and videotaping, a witness said.

"They are watching out for the movement of the NLD members," a witness added, referring to the National League for Democracy party of detained opposition leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
