PSNI appeal for witnesses to Newry armed robbery

Police in Northern Ireland are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery in Newry, Co Down, this morning.

The robbery happened shortly after 11am when a man entered a jewellers on Hill Street and asked the shop assistant for some jewellery from the window display.

The man then threatened her with a black and silver handgun and demanded she place the jewels in a black rucksack. He then threatened a second staff member before escaping down Hill Street on foot.

He is descirbed as being 5'5" of thin build, with sharp facial features, a pale complexion and short dark cropped hair. He was wearing a dark jacket with pale stripes, a white shirt and beige trousers.

Police are especially interested in talking to people who were on Hill Street this morning around the time of the robbery.
