PSNI officers investigating the shooting of five-year-old boy in Enniskillen have issued an appeal for information about two vehicles seen near the school playground where the incident took place.

Darragh Summers suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by what is believed may have been a stray bullet on Friday afternoon in the grounds of St Patrick's Primary School in Mullinaskea.

About 180 children were playing outside during their lunch break at the small Catholic school between Enniskillen and Tempo when Darragh suddenly fell forward at 1.10pm last Friday.

Police are checking leads and continuing searches in their investigation into the shooting as Darragh remained in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

Police said this afternoon they wanted to speak to the occupants of a people carrier, or anyone who saw it, near the school at around the time of the shooting incident.

They also want to talk to the occupants of a silver Ford Mondeo seen in the area on Wednesday lunchtime, said a police spokesman.

The PSNI have appealed to the public for information on anyone who was shooting for sport or vermin near the school.

Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Kyle, who is leading the investigation, has said that officers will be interviewing pupils at the school.

The five-year-old lives with his parents Gerald and Janine Summers on a housing estate in Drumbeg, just outside Enniskillen. He is in his first year, primary one, at the school.
