Two men were arrested today when counterfeit goods worth over Stg40,000 (€59,382) seized by the PSNI in Jonesborough in Co Armagh.

The fake goods were found during an operation directed against organised crime in Northern Ireland and came exactly seven days after millions of pounds of counterfeit goods were seized in the same village.

Counterfeit drink, particularly vodka, cigarettes, DVDs and training shoes together with BB guns, were confiscated.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The police conducted the searches in the village and its outskirts on public roads as part of a wider strategy to combat serious and organised crime across Northern Ireland and disrupt criminal enterprises."

The two men detained were arrested on suspicion of possessing and selling counterfeit goods, said the spokesman.

While mounting the operation, police also patrolled the enclosed Jonesborough market site and, while seizing a small number of items, said the vast majority of activity noted by police was fully legal.
